The Symphony of Leisure

Residential Design by Shih Chang Lin

The Symphony of Leisure is a residential design project by Shih Chang Lin that aims to bring out the different facets of life through its unique design and decorations. Inspired by the concept that comfort is the projection of living and leisure is the grasp of life, this project creates a space that reflects a family's identity and their pursuit of a better spiritual condition.

Upon entering the entryway, the dining area immediately catches the eye, transformed into a vista that turns a functional space into an enjoyable scene. The designer has skillfully balanced luxury and manner by using vintage-like stone materials and gold linear elements. Delicate oak-colored materials are spread out vertically and horizontally, creating a sense of steadiness. Prussian blue and Hermes orange accents add a vivid touch to the overall tonal palette, enhancing the ecological atmosphere of the space.

The interior of The Symphony of Leisure utilizes natural colors as the main tonal, incorporating stones, marble, and wood veneers on cabinets, tabletops, and vista walls. The use of different fabrics in wooden tones extends towards the ceiling, creating a sense of stability. These colors also harmonize with the greenery and sunlight outside the window, resulting in a cozy, avant-garde, and luxurious living space.

This 26-ping model home features three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a study. The design incorporates semi-transparent titanium-plated reticular screens between the bedroom and the study, creating a vague and penetrating visual sense. Different wooden materials are used throughout the floorings, walls, and ceiling, showcasing the beauty of material cutting and area division.

The design team, consisting of Shih Chang Lin, Chia-Yu Huang, and Wei-Ting Chang, focused on maximizing the use of space in this small residence. Wall-mounting cabinets, ceilings that outline layers, and pre-embedded lights create a sense of transparency and layering. The secondary bedroom's walls are combined with the cabinets of the children's room, providing additional storage flexibility with hangers on the bedroom-facing side.

The Symphony of Leisure was completed in April 2021 in Banqiao District, New Taipei City. Extensive research was conducted to ensure that the pipeline configurations, construction, and environmental conditions met the requirements for the final interior design. The selection of materials aimed to connect with the outdoor greenery, while the delicate interplay between dark and light colors created a new definition of consistency. The centerpiece of the design is the painting in the dining area, featuring three breathtaking blue fireworks that ignite the imagination.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. The award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Symphony of Leisure exemplifies strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
